A while back Brian and I had decided that we were going to keep the sex of the baby a secret until the day of the shower. I had come up with this idea....(that I thought was original)....to get the cake dyed pink if the baby was a girl and blue if it was a boy. Then, we'd have our mom's cut the cake in front of everyone. That way.....there was something exciting the guests had to look forward to!

My sisters, Kristy, Kira, Stacey, Connie, my mom Sandy,Brian's mom Carla, and Brian's Sister Jennifer all worked so hard to make this day possible! Here is a look at the awesome decorations!!!!

We spent hours gluing little Rubber Duckies to box's of candy...only for them to fall off!!! We had to hurry up and glue them back on the morning of the shower! They were so cute they all had different outfits on! We wrote Boy on the bottom of one and Girl at the bottom of another. After the cake was cut we announced to rip the ducks off the box's...whoever had the "Lucky Rubber Ducking" (meaning the one that had Boy written on it) Won a $25 Gift card to Target!

Kira put her creativity to work and made our center pieces! We were up until 1:30 in the morning trying to finish up. Then..Brian got up at 5am and I got up at 6:30am and we continued to get ready!

The moment finally arrived when the truck pulled up at 8:45am! How HUGE I thought to my self.....little did I know......

The first thing you do is take the movers on a tour of your home and show them all that needs to be taken. I showed them the house first and they were pretty pleased at how organized everything was. All the boxes were labeled with color coded tabs on multiple sides stating what room they were to go into. I also told them that we had a garage full......they said...ok, no biggy, we'll pull the truck around back and start there.

When I met them back there and opened the door.....both of their jaws hit the floor! You see...I really meant it when I said that garage was "FULL". Allow me to show you....

This side of the garage is filled with all my things that I never got to open or put away from my old house.

And this side is all of Brian's things.....From over the years......

So....yes....it was pretty much full from wall to wall......They guys just laughed at themselves and said "this is going to be a long day" But, they joked and laughed and made the best of it. When they finally finished clearing out the garage; that "huge" truck was nearly HALF FULL!!!! They told me there was no way they were going to get it all in one load like they quoted us over the phone. They proceeded to load all the boxes from the house...

Which...as you can see....was a lot more boxes and "stuff". The Moving truck reached maximum capacity just as the last box was moved in.....and off we went!
After lunch they off loaded everything and had to come back for all the furniture (which...some had to be taken a part to move) By 5:30pm we were on the road again!

FINALLY by 8:45pm all was in the new house....put back together....and put in it's correct room.
So...if you've been keeping track of the times that was a full 12 HOUR MOVE!!!!!!
Needless to say the 2 men who moved everything were tired and soar...and so was our credit card! OUCH! But....at least our backs were saved along with those of our friends and family who offered to help us. I mean come on....if it took the pro's 12 hours...can you imagine how long it would take us???? with no pro equipment...and no big truck?????? NO WAY!!!

I'm soooooo thankful we were able to hire movers!!!! WHAT A BLESSING!!!!

All in all even though it was a long day, it was a huge success.....which, by the way, would not have been possible if it wasn't for my fabulous parents! They were there for us when ever we needed them....we borrowed things, they brought us food....and they helped us get our bed ready and our shower set up so we could go to bed clean and happy! We all went to Applebee's for lunch. It was so cool to see the brother I knew as a goofy, slouching, all around fun guy turn into someone who opened doors, stood up straight, say yes mam and no sir....but still that funny goofy guy I love. He had a different way about him. One that showed respect and demanded it in return. It's hard to explain....All I can say is I was proud! After a few hours of story telling and pool time he headed back to the base....Tomorrow was GRADUATION!

The ceremony started off with a band; when they left the field you heard all kinds of gun shots and what sounded like bombs going off. The field before us filled with green and purple smoke. Out from the smoke soldiers appeared....they were equally spread through out the whole field. Eventually they made their way up to us....It was a demonstration of all the different weapons they had learned to use. Riffles, grenade launchers, and I can't remember all their names...but one was used to blow up a tank!

(Thomas said that was really fun to shoot!!!)

Next, they had the drill Sargent's come together with men who carried the flags for the National Anthem.
Here is a closer shot of Thomas standing behind and to the right of his drill Sargent. Unfortunately once the fun started.....the photo taking stopped! I'm not the type to stop and remember to pull out my camera! We did get some shot's by the pool....but I'll spare you having to see us all in swimsuits! Besides swimming we did a lot of shopping at the PX (a giant military mall where they don't have to pay taxes!!!!) And lots of eating out! We also had a game night by the pool and got to hear many funny stories about Thomas's adventure!
This was the only "fun" picture I got. It was our last day when we were all hanging out; Dad, Me, Connie, Mom, Thomas, and Trisha.

It was hard to say goodbye....but it wasn't that bad since we know he gets to have leave to come home sometime in July! I can't wait! From there.....it will be a little more difficult for he will be moving to Italy for sometime and serving over in Afghanistan. But for now....he is in Airborne Training! I know he'll have a blast with that! It was a much needed vacation with much needed family time! I'm sooooo thankful my wonderful husband was ok with me going!

Zoe79http://www.blogger.com/profile/13295579490957716000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4234404747838873398.post-81437113270380356492009-05-21T13:38:00.007-05:002009-05-21T15:59:15.730-05:00MAKE WAY.....THE MOLA'S ARE MOVING!!!!!!

That's right! This one was originally intended to be a model home. Half way through the build out the company decided to sell it. So with it being unfinished, we ended up getting to choose a lot of things for ourselves. We met with the carpet company a few weeks ago and the painter the other day. We keep track of the recently played ones over there to the right. We are both involved in a website called, don't laugh, BoardGameGeek. I occasionally write a few articles that I plan on periodically sharing here as well.

Battlestar Galactica is a "semi-cooperative" board game where two teams compete to win the game. The trick is that no one knows for sure which player is on which team. The game is based on the TV series of the same name and revolves around the most popular characters. The goal for the Human team is to prepare the ship for enough Faster Than Light (FTL) jumps to get to Kobol and reach the legendary Earth.

The goal of the Cylon team is to prevent that from happening by either boarding the ship with enough Centurions, creating enough damage to the ship, or reducing one of the four dwindling resources to zero. In the meantime, characters deal with crises, attempt to pass skill checks, fight enemy raiders all while trying to figure out who is loyal to the human race and who is an impostor. Cylons need to determine if they should continue to do their damage in secret or reveal themselves to attack in new way.

Session Report:
Finally, finally, we got Battlestar Galactica to the table last night. Since I was ill most of last month, my game playing time was limited. I was also way behind on work so most of my waking hours at home were playing catch-up there as well. PLUS, Christie wasn't convinced that BSG was a series she would get into (something about "my coolness" getting called into question for becoming one of my "dorky friends"). But John ("dorky friend") loaned us Season 1 anyway. After the miniseries, she was hooked; but I wanted to get through a few more episodes to remove the chance for any potential spoilers in the game.

So last night we attempted the official 2-player game just to learn the rules and get a feel for it. I selected Bill Adama and grabbed both titles of President and Admiral. Christie, after much deliberation, ended up with her favorite character, Starbuck. Wow! Even with just two players, the game was highly thematic. We got the turn sequence down pretty quickly and the game flow was pretty smooth. One hurdle was that there was lots of looking up things to remember what an icon meant (what to do when Cylon raiders are on the board, when they aren't on the board, and if there is anything to do when a Basestar is not present), but otherwise straightforward.

My only two complaints were this: Dealing out Skill cards each turn and the frequently mentioned "downtime" if no Cylons are on the board after a FTL jump. For the first, nothing much you can do about it. You draw so many cards over a few turns that you are constantly reshuffling, and then possibly playing the cards, and then discarding down (and the frequency will only go up with more players). The mechanic does work - especially the "organized randomness" of the numbers for skill checks - but it seems like there could have been a less annoying way to implement the feature.

For the second one, I actually found that very thematic. They say police officers have the most stressful jobs not because of the danger involved but because of the long periods of boring downtime punctuated by the short bursts of intense activity. It makes sense that the crew of Galactica would suffer the same ordeal so I didn't find it boring, just that more stressful.

After the initial set-up, we moved through a Jump fairly quickly I think we moved the marker to auto-jump within the first 6 or 7 turns and cleared space rather quickly. But then that was followed by another 5 or 6 rounds where no threat came up, the jump track hardly moved, and we had little to do but activate ship locations that gave us more Skill cards. Christie liked the idea of no threats but also was disappointed that “there [was] nothing to do on the ship.” So I can easily see where this can be a turnoff for some.

But for as much downtime we had through the second quarter of the game, the third quarter was ridiculous. We hit the Sleeper agent phase pretty quickly as our first 2 jumps sent us out 5 spaces to Kobol. Though we had many resources on the last blue space, none were in the red when we built the variant Loyalty deck. That meant two Human cards with only one Cylon. We thoroughly shuffled and randomly dealt the cards. Christie had this nervous-bounce-thing going with no poker face. I interpreted that as “I am Cylon” and then read for her everything in the rulebook on how to play a Cylon character. I later found out that it was actually some contorted-happy-seat-dance which meant “NOT a Cylon.” But for the time, she immediately “confirmed” my suspicions when after the first of a series of Cylon Attack Crisis cards came up, she quickly looked at the Civies trailing BSG to see what resource they carried. But as Adama, I had no way to get her to the Brig. I looked suspicious to her when I forgot to use my nukes on one of the two Basestars while our jump track was in reverse.

On top of that, we pulled four Cylon Attack Crisis cards in a row. Starbuck used her destiny to send the last one to the bottom of the deck (I thought it was a Cylon trick!) although within a few turns, we still hit the 5th in that run. We literally had every ship on the board and were nowhere near jumping. Vipers were also dropping left and right after a series of 8-result rolls. After Starbuck returned to sickbay, she couldn’t find a Viper to launch and had to sit on the sidelines as 3 more Civies were gobbled up. Starbuck pulled a Skill Check crisis card where if we failed, the current player was going to the Brig. Adama finally had the power to move the suspected Cylon to the Brig but checked his gut and decided her Firepower was more important, so saved her in the Skill check.

Adama: Do your job.
Starbuck: Yes sir...
Adama: And walk out of this cabin...while you still can.

With resources dwindling, we finally got the Faster Than Light calculations to work out and moved into the Blue. We jumped, cleared the entire board, but lost 3 of our 6 remaining population. With the temporary breather, Adama shuttled to Colonial One to draw through the Quorum deck more quickly while Starbuck jumped on a Viper to ensure she was part of the next fight.

As we entered the fourth quarter, “the gods” looked favorably upon us. I finally drew a Quorum card that allowed me to look at one random Loyalty card. Starbuck was exonerated and we could focus on going home. Our next jump sent us to Ragnar and we grabbed back three sorely needed Vipers and another Raptor, which doubled our supplies. A couple more Basestars appeared: my nuke took out one while Starbuck’s Viper scored a direct hit and prevented another from launching raiders. With the threats under control and a few draws with the jump icon, we managed to return to earth with one population remaining (the other resources were at 3 or 4).

Overall, we found the game an excellent addition to our collection. So much so, that I am willing to give it a 9 after one play and to dust off my session reporter. All in all, we went through about half the Crisis deck. We hit every Cylon Attack card except one though we had to suffer through “33” twice. There was enough tension in the game and the suspect Loyalty of both of us proved a two-player game could be fulfilling. Obviously, more players would be better, especially since I didn’t particularly like wearing both hats as President and Admiral: too few actions to make either that effective. Also, we never experienced an active Cylon thwarting our efforts or Centurions on board. So I am looking forward to those in a multi-player game. FFG scores another hit!

By the way, one final word on "my coolness." One of us recently purchased a BSG-fan microbadge. Black Out on Builders for Christ
One night, we were all playing games in a cramped hotel lobby when a massive storm hit! We lost all power but continued to play Catch Phrase in the pitch black night while teens with their cell phones kept taunting us.

8. Jennifer's Wedding
Brian's sister Jennifer was married this year in June and Brian and one of her friends were ushers. Brian's grandmother thought that her son was supposed to walk her down the aisle; well, when the other guy started to walk her down the aisle she freaked out and started hitting him saying "you're not my son"!

7. The Julia - Mola Bond
Our friends, John and Jessica, have an adorable little girl who just turned one. Ever since she was born, there has been a special bond between her and Brian. You should see them together - it is a riot!

6. Brian Mola Reaches 300 Owned Boardgames
That's right 300. Need I say more.

5. Trading Punches
Part A) On our wedding day, we wrote our own vows and I promised myself that I was not going to cry! Well, I lasted through his and when it was my turn to say mine I saw him about to tear up and I lost it. I was so mad that I started crying that I punched him in the arm as I continued my vows.

Part B) We spent the night at Brian's sister's house for Christmas Eve. I woke up in the middle of the night to a fist in my eye!!!! He hit me so hard that I was seeing stars! Brian says he was trying to get the blankets loose that were stuck and he accidentally hit my eye as his hand lost it's grip.
Merry Christmas to my eye...

4. My Pirate Proposal
Most of you have already heard or read about how Brian asked me to marry him. Just in case you haven't....He put me on a treasure hunt, starting it off with a card from a pirate board game we have. He took one of the cards and changed it by putting a picture of a toilet on it saying "report to the poop deck". From there I followed a series of clues until I reached my treasure. (All the while I had no idea what he was up to)

My treasure chest had a note in it saying that I took too long and I had to turn around and walk the plank. When I turned around he was standing there holding a little treasure chest....(I still didn't get it) I opened it up and it had a bunch of little coins in it...my pirate booty...I thought. Then he told me to keep digging and I noticed it had a false bottom.....one last clue was laying in there that said "Where your treasure is; there your heart will be also" I knew then and when I lifted it....there was the MOST beautiful ring in there that I had EVER seen!!!

3. A Wedding Day Flood
We had planned an outdoor wedding with a reception outside under a huge Cinderella tent.....
God had other plans. The rains came and almost washed away our huge tent. The water in my parents back yard came up to your calf in some sections. Those of you who were there know that we had to call everyone that morning and move everything inside at the church. It all turned out beautifully and it was a blast.

2. Christmas Tree....Belly Up
I put our first Christmas Tree up this year. A nice 6.5' tree that I then put up on a table so there would be more space (and less for the dog to reach). Well, in my brain it made sense to put all my pretty ornaments were I could see them....the front. I put EVERYTHING on the front of the tree. Before we went to bed that night Brian said..."hey, I think the tree is leaning." I told him it was fine and we went to bed. The next morning at 5:15am he comes into the room shouting...I told you that tree was leaning and now it fell over!!! So, I dragged my bum out of bed only to see my beautiful tree that I was so proud of laying on the floor all torn apart and strew about the floor. The dog had a guilty look on her face as I saw my little chewed up holly berries next to her.

Brian's face dropped as he noticed his favorite fire truck ornaments were broken as well. My eyes filled up with tears and I crawled back in bed. Later I woke up and did it all over again.
(this time going around the ENTIRE tree and tying the sucker to the window....just to be safe)

And the #1 Funniest Mola Moment of 2008 is.....
How I got the Nickname "Macaroon"
Our honeymoon to Jamaica was all inclusive and we could eat and drink as much as we wanted....and we did. There was a little French pastry place where they made fresh goodies all day long. Well, everyday I would go there at 3:00pm to get the macaroons!!! If I timed it right I could get them right out of the oven when they were still warm. Let me tell you they were so good!!! You couldn't have just one, no sir, I had to stuff as many as I could fit into my belly, they were so good.

Well, the last day we were there we decided to have the professional photographer take our picture by the beach at sunset. It was really nice and he was having do all these poses. One time he asked Brian to pick me up....And yeah, well his face turned bright red and he was shaking!!! The photographer asked him what was wrong and he said that I had eaten too many macaroons! We both lost it and were laughing hysterically. The photographer caught the moment on film!

Zoe79http://www.blogger.com/profile/13295579490957716000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4234404747838873398.post-16096953100367074032008-12-30T09:21:00.002-06:002009-01-07T08:43:51.787-06:00Christmas ExtravaganzaThe Mola's experienced their first Christmas together!

It was amazing. Neither one of us could have asked for anything more. It was beautiful.
We both worked Christmas Eve until noon, came home and peeled potatoes, and then loaded up the truck for Naperville. Brian's sister Jennifer and her new husband would be hosting Christmas Eve dinner for the first time.
Dominic, Jennifer's husband, made the MOST DELICIOUS ham I have EVER tasted! I made mashed potatoes.....enough for an army....I made WAY too much! 5lbs too much!

After dinner we all opened our Secret Santa presents by the fire place. It was fun to see who had whom. Brian's mom had me and it just amazes me how well she knows me! I loved all my presents!!!

The next morning everyone woke up and the immediate family drove down to Leo and Carla's house to exchange some family gifts. That was a lot of fun too. In Brian's family they divide up who buys for who. I was assigned to buy for Brian's brother Danny, Dominic, and Jennifer. Jennifer was easy she gave me a list....plus she's a girl so that makes it fun! Danny only told me one little thing that he wanted....so....I bought him a bunch of stuff I think he needs like guitar hero underpants and a harmonica. hee hee! (that's what happens when you don't tell me what you want!!!)

And the worst...but funniest part....I forgot about Dominic!!!!! I had so much on my plate with buying presents for both families and friends and work and I had finals. So.....Christmas Eve eve at 9:00pm at night I looked at Brian and told him that I had forgotten someone. Right away we called Jennifer and made an emergency run to Target!

Then, we headed over to my family's house. My family is huge! Everyone was there except my brother Scott and his family. There was about 20 people there and 3 big dogs. We had random gift openings through out the day it was crazy......but fun. The best part was dinner when we all sat down together at the 3 tables!!!!

At our family we have had a Secret Santa exchange between the siblings since I can remember. This year I had Kristy...I don't remember ever having her so it was expecially fun to shop for her. Brian had Kevin and he did a great job picking out Kevin's gifts! Chris Manko had Brian and Trisha had me. They got us wonderful gifts!

Another big thing in my family is stockings....we all LOVE and look forward to the stockings!!! But....you only get one if you are a sibling or married to one. So, this year Brian had one and my mom had made his! It looked great; better than the ones you see at the store.

I also got to see my sister Kristy with her braces off and look at her new beautiful smile and play with her little 8 month old baby Hunter. He is sooooooo cute! My favorite part of this year with my family was seeing everyone open up the presents I got them. I loved watching their reactions.

Finally at around 7:00pm Brian and I had our own gift exchange at home. We had a limit of $40. I blew that and made sure I got the board game he really wanted "Adroid" along with the Starwars Trilogy on DVD and a new wallet. He on the other hand stuck to the limit.....but boy did he surprise me.

Every year Brian manages to knock my socks off by some awesome surprise and this year I didn't think he would be able to because of the limit....but......he sure did! When we left his parents house that morning he grabbed a HUGE wrapped present and put it in the back of the truck. I thought maybe his mom got him a big present and didn't want the other kids to see it. I forgot all about it. Later that night he brought it in the house and told me it was mine!!!!! I opened it thinking what could be this big and only be $40?????
Guitar Hero World Tour with the full band!!!!! Guitar, Drums and a Microphone!!!!!
I really, really, really, wanted that but I NEVER thought I would get it!!!!!!
